Ever wondered how your unique gifts could be a blessing to others in mission and ministry? In our new series we feature the many faces across our Church who are serving where they are, with what God has given them. We hope that it will be a blessing and an inspiration.

Meet Mary Birch

Current role

Ballina UC Church Council Chairperson and Administration Officer; Far North Coast Presbytery Regional Partnership Team Member – Finance & Property Liaison Officer

What do you love about being involved in this ministry?

It is my joy to see the fruits and growth from intentional mission in the outreach ministry and mission as well as supporting our minister as he facilitates such a mission.

A number of years in local church administration employment, enabled me to gain the ‘acquired knowledge’ of how the church practises work in a practical sense.  I believe that we are all in this together and as part of that, when I help someone with information or pathways to meet their need, I have a sense of satisfaction.  This has particularly been the case when it comes to my role in the FNCP Regional Partnership.

What do you find most challenging?

I believe if we all use our special talents and gifts the load would be lighter for some and rewarding for all participants. I acknowledge that as our congregations age, it is more difficult to take on a role and the need for IT knowledge is a stumbling block for many.

What you are looking forward to in your ministry in the year ahead:

I am looking forward to our mission group ‘Lunch With Punch’ growing both spiritually and in capacity, and my prayer is for our traditional congregation being willing and flexible when it comes to changing the style of worship, to accommodate a changing dynamic of worship in our church.

Anything else you might want to share?

In this time of cultural reluctance to attend church, being ‘the face of Jesus’ in the community outside the church doors and being willing to share our faith with others, needs to be our priority and is what we are really called to do.
