The Role

We have begun our journey to implement a Human Resources Information System (HRIS) across our multi-entity organisation which will truly transform how we work. During this time of 12 months initially, we are seeking a Senior Payroll Officer to support payroll functions and the wider People and Culture team.

Working within a close-knit team of 5 and reporting to the Acting Payroll Manager, you will be maintaining the payroll system ensuring payroll processing, payments, and records comply with relevant by-laws, awards, arbitrated decisions, and consent agreements.

Preparation and payment of wages and salaries for employing bodies within the Synod including Congregations, Presbyteries, and The National Assembly on a fortnightly and/or monthly basis.

What you will be doing:

  • Responsible for the delivery of the Synod Missions Services fortnightly and monthly payrolls including checking variances, reconciling the banking and post payroll reports distribution.
  • Processing monthly Superannuation payments for employees and ministers
  • Processing a high volume of tasks, including new hires, terminations, timesheets, leave forms and variation changes.
  • PAYG Payments and bank debit recoveries.
  • Managing digital employees’ records including electronic filling post payroll. Ensuring the General Ledger Interface is accurately maintained and up to date.
  • EOM processing including preparing and distributing HR and payroll reports to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Reconciliations of Employees' and Ministers’ entitlements, including Annual leave, Long Service leave, and long leave
  • Preparing End of Financial Year (EOFY) reconciliations and reports following Synod procedures & policies, audit, and ATO requirements.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of awards and various total remuneration data to ensure that payroll payments comply with awards, arbitrated decisions, and consent agreements.
  • Managing queries from employees, Ministers Congregation & Presbytery Treasurers as well as The National Assembly management team via email and phone calls
  • Documentation of key processes and procedures as they relate to payroll processing and reporting.
  • Assisting the Acting Payroll Manager with tasks associated with continuous improvement and project initiatives (including user acceptance testing for internal projects.)

What you will need:

  • Minimum of 5+ years’ end-to-end payroll experience
  • Legislative and award compliance with the ability to interpret relevant awards and legislation.
  • Good understanding of salary packaging and payroll-related employment legislation.
  • Experience working in multi-company, complex and in a large and fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with more than one Tier 2 payroll system.
  • Experience with efficiently handling a high volume of tasks, including processing new hires, terminations, timesheets, leave forms, and variation changes.
