One of the Synod’s primary responsibilities is to promote and encourage the mission of the church. The Synod Meeting provides a wonderful opportunity to discern how various councils and entities, disciples and leaders can work together in God’s mission.

Synod Membership is largely derived from nominations made by Presbyteries.

As Presbytery leaders consider nominations for Synod 2025, we encourage them to take the opportunity to identify those with clear vision and passion for the mission of the Church – perhaps even those members who are not normally considered – and invite them to apply their hopes and discernment to the future of their Church.

If you are a member of the Church and wish to be nominated to attend Synod 2025, we encourage you to speak to a Presbytery representative. If you don't know your Presbytery representative contact  synodmeeting@nswact.uca.org.au and we will be able to provide you with someone who can assist you with nominating.

Synod 2025 - Transforming Communities

The 41st Synod in Session in 2025 will be held from July 11-13 at Western Sydney Conference Centre in Penrith. Nominations are now open to attend Synod.

The theme chosen by the Moderator is "Transforming Communities". This follows on from her theme "Transforming Spirit" in 2023, and asks us, as the Body of Christ, to think about how have we been moved by the Spirit to make change in our communities?

And what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)

We will discover how, as a Synod guided by the Holy Spirit, we are living into our Future Directions commitments which are:

  • Working with Presbyteries across the Synod to stimulate growth in and through our congregations,
  • Reimagining ministry in and with rural and regional areas,
  • Reaching and empowering people in the first third of their lives,
  • Walking Together with First Peoples
  • Living cross-culturally as a multi-cultural, inter-cultural church; and
  • Acting and advocating for climate justice.

We will hear about the outcomes from the Presbytery-led Year of Discernment process in 2024, which will help shape the future of the Synod of NSW and ACT. There will be updates from important proposals bought to Synod 2023 and we will also be voting for a Moderator Elect who will serve the Synod from 2027-2030.

The Chair of the Business Committee, Rev. Pablo Nunez encourages Presbyteries to nominate members:

“My invitation to each Presbytery and each member of our church is to consider the nominations for membership prayerfully and passionately -- the proposals coming forward are extremely important and we need to have in the room, the people that will then engage with the process of making them a reality. This is the most important expression of the church in my opinion: the Congregations, faith communities, church planting, where our church becomes flesh and blood into the communities that we want to see transformed.”
