The Role

Are you a compassionate and dedicated Christian with a calling for pastoral care? St Matthews Uniting Church in Baulkham Hills is seeking a part-time Pastoral Care Worker to join our ministry team. As a crucial part of our community, you will provide spiritual guidance and pastoral care to support the wellbeing of our congregation and local community.

This position is Part-time, 20 hours per week (includes Sunday mornings).

About the position:

  • Provide spiritual guidance and pastoral care, including listening, prayer and emotional support.
  • Regularly visit and communicate with members who are ill, elderly, or in need.
  • Work alongside the minister to participate in services and other church activities.
  • Provide crisis intervention and bereavement support as needed.
  • Coordinate with volunteers and other church staff to organise support groups, workshops, and outreach activities.
  • Advocate for the needs of the congregation and facilitate communication between members and church leadership.
  • Actively participate in the life of the congregation including church meetings, events, and activities.
  • Maintain appropriate records, contribution to church publications and reports to Church Council.
  • Participate in Uniting Church Ethical Ministry refresher training on an ongoing basis.

About you:

  • Active Christian faith in God and understanding of the principles, beliefs, and code of conduct for Lay Leaders of the Uniting Church in Australia.
  • Previous experience in a pastoral care role or similar.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to listen, empathise, and provide support.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Some training in theology, divinity, Christian counselling or pastoral care is preferred.
  • Driver’s license and own transport.
  • Completion of (or willingness to complete) the Uniting Church in Australia's Safe Church training.
  • First Aid and Mental Health First Aid training would be an advantage.
