School Leaders Workshop: Building relationships and sharing in the mission

On Friday 3 May school leaders from Uniting Church Schools met in the Synod offices for their second workshop with the Moderator. They picked up key issues of community and the environment, raised the last time they met.
PULSE Team Leader, Joanna Drayton, reflected on the importance of community from a Christian perspective and students reported back to the group on recent initiatives to help build community in their schools. These included activities to create bonds between different year groups as well as finding ways to include and celebrate students from various cultural groups in their school.
The student leaders also discussed ways that they could better care for the environment. With input from David Toogood, Siosiana (Joyce) Tangi and James Aaron from the PULSE Team, including personal stories and excellent websites that they can use, the students explored various initiatives from recycling and composting through to advocacy.
All of these ideas they will be able to take back to their school communities to inform their peers and improve environmental outcomes.
The students enjoyed the discussion and took back some new ideas for their leadership, as well as interacting with key Uniting Church staff and students from other Uniting Church schools.
All of which helps in building relationships and sharing in the mission and ministry of the church together.
